The truly great thing about Don’s View is that it can also be used for other smaller tasks that expand the experience and have the ability to truly alter gameplay. Want to really make an impact? You can actually accompany your family members into battle. Want to merely send a message? Send a couple thugs to set a couple fires. From here you can plan your attacks, and in an almost RTS like fashion, attempt to take over rival territories. Don’s View opens up a 3D map of your controlled territories as well as those controlled by rival families. Thanks to the new Don’s View mode, Godfather feels less like a run of the mill action title, and more like something fresh. What Godfather excels at is making players feel like they truly are the Don of a mafia family unlike most games dealing with the same subject matter that merely make you feel like a thug. While this event does happen in the game, it takes place at the Corleone family compound fairly late in the game rather than in Cuba like the film. One of the pivotal moments of the film (and trilogy for that matter) is when Michael finally tells Fredo that he knows he betrayed him. Now, I’m not the type of guy to nitpick over the smallest discrepancies, it’s a reimagining of the original story – I get it.
